Have your say about the future of tourism in Dunedin.

We’re still keen to hear from you.

Independent research company Angus & Associates are working with the Dunedin City Council to find out what Dunedin people want (and don’t want) the future of tourism in the greater Dunedin area to look like.

How should tourism be developed to best benefit our communities and reduce any pain points? What is most important?

The protection and restoration of our environment? Smart and low-impact transport options? What happens to our wildlife, arts and heritage attractions? The future of events? What kind of job opportunities tourism could support?

Tourism will continue to be an important part of our way of life in Dunedin, but what tourism looks like and offers in the future is up to the choices that we make now. Choices that will also matter for generations to come.

If you would like to share your views and help shape the way Dunedin plans for the future of tourism, we invite you to take part in this futures research.

Please encourage your friends and whanau and wider communities to take part too so that we can make sure to capture as many views as possible.

Research groups start in August and the survey will launch in September.

(There will be various options for completing the survey, so if you need assistance or prefer methods other than online - hard copy, phone etc - please indicate this via the signup form)

Be The Change: Funding and Equity

Dunedin Community Builders is delighted to share with you the new resource for community and funders, Be the Change: Funding and Equity.

Dunedin Community Builders is an informal, volunteer-run network of organisations, groups and people from across the community sector in Ōtepoti. One of the planks of our mahi is to look at how funding systems could be shifted to create change and equity.

Be the Change is distilled from the kōrero that we have heard from across the community and funding sectors over the last two years and more. It centres the stories and experiences of the Dunedin community and offers the ‘how to’ of funding for change and equity.

Dunedin Community Builders are partnering with Hui E! Community Aotearoa to officially launch this resource with a community hui and lunch in Ōtepoti on Wednesday 28 September. The hui will have an exciting guest speaker - so please save the date and watch this space for further details.

You can also read the report online https://bit.ly/bethechangeōtepoti or see the attachment at the end of this section.

The liquid paperboard recycling project. Can you help?

The liquid paperboard recycling project - or tetra pak recycling - is taking the next step up in its recycling journey and we're currently looking for a space to be able to bale our cartons for the long term.

This project has the ability to either provide a baler in a space, or borrow a baler from a business that is already using one. This would involve no storage of cartons on site for either option and would only be used once a month. There are specifications that are needed in a space for the baler to be used which can be provided to interested parties.

For more information and any questions, please get in contact with Leisa at recycling@onecoast.org.

Writers of South Asia whakapapa in Aotearoa.

The Communities of Readers project, Te Mana o Te Kupu, also known as Read Share Grow has now a small initiative to create a Task Force to work alongside the National Library in recommending and supporting librarians with book selections in the languages. The aim is to grow the World Language Collection. We would like to trial creating this support group/task force from Dunedin to not only identify languages, but also suggest titles that are enjoyable to read and accessible for bi-literate children and their whanau from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
