Central City Plan: George Street Concept Design

DCC City Development —

The concept design has been developed using the objectives laid out in the Central City Plan, key strengths and weaknesses of the Retail Quarter as laid out in the plan, best practice as laid out in the Global Street Design Guide and incorporating the consultation feedback from stakeholders and public.

The concept presented to Council is an initial guide to set the direction and function of George Street. The footpath elements, materials, street furniture, artistic elements and refinement of the design will continue to evolve through to technical details later with further modelling and data collection.

An Activity Plan is included as part of the preliminary concept design of George Street, to show how the street will be activated through events, educational mini projects, trials and other positive interventions that are aimed to manage disruption through the construction period and maintain footfall to businesses.
