When you need to design a building to be relocatable

Building Services Team —

There are certain requirements about relocatable residential buildings under the Proposed Second Generation District Plan (2GP).

Certain areas of Dunedin City are identified as being subject to a Hazard 3 (Coastal) Overlay Zone under the 2GP. A large portion of the South Dunedin residential area is subject to this overlay zone.

One of the key requirements of building within the Hazard 3 (coastal) Overlay Zone is that all new residential buildings containing residential activity on the ground floor must be able to be relocated from the site (Rule 11.3.3 of the 2GP).

When such development is proposed within a Hazard 3 (Coastal) Overlay Zone by either a building consent or resource consent application, applicants must provide confirmation as part of that application of whether their proposed buildings are relocatable, so that the Dunedin City Council’s Resource Consents Team can make an appropriate assessment under the 2GP.

For more information, please contact the Council’s Resource Consents Public Enquiries Counter for assistance, either by calling 03 477 4000 or emailing planning@dcc.govt.nz.
