How to reduce requests for further information

Building Services Team —

Read more for helpful tips on submitting an application for building consent.

Building consent applications are processed faster if all the relevant information has been included. You can assist by:

  • Providing a completed check sheet for each project. Check sheets enable applicants to provide a complete and technically accurate building consent application and help to clarify how compliance with the NZ Building Code is established.

  • Using the guidance contained in the application packs.

  • Completing all relevant sections of the application form or placing n/a if not applicable to the project.

  • Making sure plans and specifications are project specific. Sorting through non relevant information takes time and may result in further costs. Plans must be of good quality and drawn to a suitable scale. Free hand drawings will not be accepted.

  • Making sure exempt building work being done in conjunction with the building consent is clearly identified.

  • Only including a certificate of design work from a licensed building practitioner if the application includes restricted building work. Certificates of design that are received when not required will be removed from the application. Refer to the restricted building work flow chart below.

  • Making sure authors of producer statements for design work are either a Charted Professional Engineer or on the Southern Building Control Group Producer Statement register before you submit the building consent application (refer to register links below).

  • Chatting with a DCC Planner about any resource consent requirements before submitting the building consent application.

  • Checking any requirements with the DCC Water and Waste department (new connections).
