Whakamauru | De-escalation for Volunteers (Online)
De-escalation skills are an important life skill for many people in our community, regardless of where they are or what role that they have. De-escalation is a learned behaviour that is intended to prevent the escalation of conflict. Learning how to de-escalate compassionately and safety is often of critical importance to those who work with members of the vulnerable community.

This 1.5 hour workshop will give participants practical skills to be able to support de-escalation primarily for their volunteer role, but also in the professional and personal lives as well.
Volunteer South recognises de-escalation skills as an important part of any volunteer role and is supporting member organisation to upskill their volunteers. This workshop is free for volunteers to attend and the Zoom link will be sent out to participants approximately 48 hours before.
Healthy Homes Initiative
As part of the 2021 budget, the NZ Government announced the expansion of the Healthy Homes Initiative nationwide from July 2022. This initiative has run successfully in much of the North Island for several years. The expansion of this funding will ensure more children and their whānau are living in a warm, dry and healthy homes. It will reduce avoidable ill health due to housing related conditions.
The Ministry of Health team are hosting a series of roadshows across the country to explain the tender process for this programme and provide an opportunity to answer any questions in person.
The roadshow will take place in Dunedin on 5 November 2021. The location and timing are currently TBC and pending COVID-19 alert levels.

This Inspiring Communities Community Building Block will draw upon the experience and skills of our own Kindra Douglas to explore the possibilities of the SCARF model. The skills and tools shared in this workshop will support you to unleash the potential of collaboration.

Volunteer Engagement 201 (Dunedin)
The most comprehensive volunteer engagement workshop in the southern region.

- Venue: Volunteer South
Volunteer Engagement is an important topic for all managers, coordinators or supporters of volunteers. Volunteer South's 101 course focuses on a broad range of support from the very start of a programme This 201 intensive workshop is dedicated to those who are looking at specific volunteer engagement strategies to build on existing support.
This 2 hour workshop will focus on volunteer motivation, stories and the power of word of mouth. It will also focus on strategies for capturing volunteers who are ‘knocking on the doors’ of volunteer programmes, but don't necessarily have the time to fit with traditional roles. Volunteer South aims to make this training as specific as possible, so come armed with questions.
