SOUTH DUNEDIN LIBRARY ON TRACK
Construction of the new South Dunedin Library and Community Complex is progressing well and looks set to be ready next year.
The DCC partnered with Positive Property Limited (PPL) on the project to create a vibrant hub for a wide range of activities and services in South Dunedin.
The South Dunedin Library and Community Complex will feature a modern library, DCC service centre, meeting rooms, computer and wi-fi access, a recording studio, a makerspace for creative technologies and more.
The new facility aims to foster positive economic and social outcomes for South Dunedin. It is hoped it will provide a versatile space for education, creativity, and community engagement. Those backing the new complex are delighted with how it is progressing and are excited about the positive impact it will have on the community.
The complex will be fully accessible and include bike stands and mobility charging stations to encourage accessibility and eco-friendly transportation options. Concrete for the first-floor ground slab was recently poured in preparation for the remainder of the structure to be constructed at King Edward Street.
PPL will construct the two-storey building to a shell stage and the DCC will complete the fit out. The DCC has also engaged with Aukaha to work in partnership on the design and development of the cultural narrative.
The project is scheduled to be complete by mid-2025 and budgeted to cost about $21.4 million.
