Booking tips for buskers
Thinking about dusting off your guitar or pan-pipes for a busking gig in the Octagon this summer? Then book that performance slot.
To ensure that everyone gets a fair go, the DCC has tweaked its booking system so that only one act is able to perform at a time. It has also extended the bookable time from half an hour to one hour, to give you more time to set up, give your best performance, and allow some time for packing down.
A few things to note:
- performers still require a busking permit
- performers can choose from two spaces: the Alexander McMillan stand or by the footpath in the Lower Octagon
- if performers want to book a time when cruise ships are in town, check out the schedule here (noting that not all cruise ships have shuttle pick-ups in the Octagon)
- the usual performing restrictions apply if there is an event booked in the Octagon
- performers still need to abide by the regulations set out in the Trading in Public Places Bylaw.
Please remember:
- under the current bylaw, amplification isn’t permitted
- under the Resource Management Act 1991, performers can’t create excessive or unreasonable noise.
