Heritage Matters
The latest Heritage Matters programme features the replay of a story prepared by Ann Barrowclough on the extent and horror of the 1918 flu pandemic which killed between eight and nine thousand New Zealanders. A century after the devastating event, a memorial is to be erected in Wellington. Our story includes reports from eye witnesses, including a nurse aboard the RMS Niagara which was blamed for bringing the flu to New Zealand.
The programme previews the Oamaru Victorian Festival next month and we also learn about the life and work of early Port Chalmers Doctor William Henry Borrie.
The programme will be broadcast on Monday 29th October at 12 noon on Otago Access Radio (105.4FM) and repeated the following Sunday at 7pm. It can also be heard on a podcast at www.oar.org.nz
