Principles of Home Performance course

  • Date: Thursday, 27 July
  • Time: 8.30am - 4.30pm
  • Venue: Civic Centre Dunedin

This course covers the following topics:

  • Home performance in New Zealand: damp and cold, links to health, Government policy
  • Four critical elements for a healthy home: Reducing heating loss, adequate heat, moisture control, and ventilation; and describes some key principles of and common solutions to each
  • The New Zealand Healthy Housing Standards for rental properties
  • Energy for a healthy home: household energy use, efficiency and conservation
  • Smart energy use at home: lighting, appliances, hot water
  • Other services and where else to get help.

This is a great course for anyone that works with people in their homes even if the focus is not on their house. After this course you will be able to have an informed conversation about the house (cold/heating/damp…) with the occupants/owner and you can spot what the issues are. You are then able to help educate the occupants (and people need to be told/read/hear something several times for them to make a change, so if you can be part of this change that’s awesome) and/or connect them with the right people to get further help. Basically everyone that does this course says it should a course that everyone should do!

The full costs of the course:

  • $880 + GST for all commercial business
  • $660 + GST for NFP, Councils, Government
  • $550 + GST for CEN members
