Violent tremors wracked his frail bones,
Everyone had left poor Ted alone,

After a while Ted had had enough,
He'd lived a life that had been far too tough,

He lay down on the cold, damp, cobbled street,
He had no water and no food to eat,

His crusted eyelids fluttered down to close,
The smell of grape juice lingered 'round his nose,

Infected burns ran up and down his side,
His red and bleeding wound was cut too wide,

His fear of death had left him over night,
Now was the time to go towards the light,

To end his life right now, today,
Ted knew it was the only way,

The shimmer left his sunken eyes,
Rain fell down from clouded skies,

The moon, the sun, the stars, the sky,
All mourned the loss in a broken cry,

A howl of wind, a dimming shine,
From the ones who'd been there all this time,

Meaningless though his life had been,
Never talked to, never seen,

The moon still shone to light his way,
The wind still blew his clouds away,

The sun still kept him warm in light,
The stars still glowed for him at night,

The earth still let him walk her land,
When not one person lent a hand,

The cruelty of humans will always be there,
The earth may not, but for how she's here,

So when you think your end is near,
Ask for help and the earth will be there.
