National Poetry Day Competition 2024: Landscapes of Otago

Dunedin Public Libraries in partnership with the Otago-Southland branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors, as well as the Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature invite you to celebrate National Poetry Day by creating poetry.

The competition is open to residents of Otago- Southland with categories for primary school, high school and adults. You can write about anything you like, or use our suggested theme for this year, Landscapes of Otago.

Judging

Competition Judges Majella Cullinane & Jillian Sullivan

Majella Cullinane writes poetry, fiction and essays. She recently published her third poetry collection Meantime with Otago University Press. Her first short story collection will be published next year. She lives in Kōpūtai, Port Chalmers with her family.

Jillian Sullivan lives in Central Otago. Her thirteen published books include creative non-fiction, novels, short story collections and poetry. She taught fiction and creative non-fiction in New Zealand and North America. Her awards include the Juncture Memoir Award in America, the NZSA Beatson Fellowship, and the Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems. She is an earth plasterer, environmentalist and sexual consent activist. Her latest book is Map for the Heart – Ida Valley Essays, Otago University Press.
