PRODUCED BY RADIOACTIVE HEDGEHOG PRODUCTIONS FOR THE DUNEDIN FRINGE FESTIVAL 2021

The Bacchae is a modernized retelling of the Greek tragedy of the same name originally written by Athenian playwright Euripides, brought to the stage under the helm of writer-director Sam Pretious and Radioactive Hedgehog Productions. This new version is intended to explore the characters and world of Thebes in greater depth, combining elements of theatre, tragicomedy, dance, and physical theatre. The show is produced in partnership with the Dunedin City Library, and with the support of the University of Otago Division of Humanities Performing Arts Fund.

Featured among the cast is Jasper Ririnui as Dionysus, Dylan Kay as Pentheus, Catherine Mackmurdie as Agave, and Mac Veitch as Cadmus. Jordan Wichman, Meko Ng, and Conor Hill appear as the Chorus, and live music is provided by Freya Bates and Barney Connolly.

The creative team includes set design/stage management/production management by Asher Dawes, costumes designed by Azalea Lewis-Milne, lighting designed by Mason Potiki-Grayling, and choreography by Jordan Wichman.

The Bacchae will be performed in the Dunningham Suite of the Dunedin City Library, on March 26th at 6pm, March 27th at 2pm (with a free post-show Q&A with the cast and crew), and March 28th at 2pm, as part of 2021’s Dunedin Fringe Festival.

Tickets are only $10, and are available on the Dunedin Fringe booking site and a limited number of tickets will also be on sale at the front of house before each show.
