Two Worlds Collide

Me pa’s a Maori
Me ma’s a Scot
They love me to bits
But confuse me a lot.

Ma says laddie eat ya porridge
Pa said there’s kumara left over from the roast
I want to avoid it all
I’d just be happier with honey on toast

Ma wants me to settle into me schoolin
Which I dinnae love a lot
Pa says I’ll be smarter if I can forage in the bush and fill the ‘boil up’ pot
I want to use my time more wisely and not waste it on such things
I’d rather read me Tin Tin while sitting on the swing

I’m embarrassed by my bedroom
My friends have spiderman
But with me Maori flag and tartin bedspread
Mine just looks like a ‘clash of clans’

Pa practices tiaha
Ma does the highland fling
Due to biking adventures
I’m sitting in a sling

For our Christmas wreath
Ma wants heather
Pa shoves in some flax‘n’feather
As for me I just don’t care
As long as Santa finds his way here

Ma’s in the kitchen singing
Oh flower of Scotland when will we see
Pa thinks he’s funny and joins in with
Ka mate Ka mateee
So I block my ears and flee

So as you see
My world can confuse me
Pa and Ma tug me each a different way
Tootle doo and Ka kite
