A change to our eBook platforms

Dunedin Public Libraries | Kā Kete Wānaka o Ōtepoti —

Since 29 August 2023, BorrowBox has become our main provider of eBooks and eAudiobooks. Access to eBooks via Wheelers ePlatform has now ended.

Q: Why the change?
A: There were several factors contributing to this decision, including:

  • BorrowBox offers us the best value for money due to its affordable content and easy-to-use app and platform.
  • BorrowBox also allow us to have all our eBook and eAudiobook content in one platform, making it easier to search and see what is available.
  • BorrowBox also offers a wide range of fantastic eMagazine titles, making it a one-stop-shop for eContent for our customers.
  • BorrowBox offers significant exclusive content.
  • Analysis of usage of eBooks on BorrowBox versus Wheelers ePlatform.

Q: What will happen to all the eBooks on Wheelers ePlatform?

A: Great news! Most of the titles will transfer from Wheelers to BorrowBox after 29 August. It may take some time for this process to complete. Should any titles be unable to transfer (due to publisher restrictions), we will receive a content credit to spend on alternative titles for BorrowBox.

Q: I am still reading an eBook on Wheelers ePlatform, will I be able to finish it after 29 August?

A: Yes. The title should expire on your original due date.

Q: Will my reserves transfer over to BorrowBox?
Unfortunately not.

Q: Will my Loan History transfer across to BorrowBox?
A: Unfortunately not.

Q: What about eAudiobooks on uLibrary?
A: Access to eAudiobooks on uLibrary will continue as usual.

Q: Can I get help to set up BorrowBox?
A: Yes! Pop into any Library or we are offering one-on-one Book a Librarian sessions to help people set themselves up on BorrowBox. Book here. Or check out our online tutorial on how to use BorrowBox.
