Scream Site. Justina Ireland
Sabrina is hoping to get an internship with a local newspaper but she needs to submit an article to the selectors that will make her stand out from the crowd. She begins researching a popular website where people are invited to enter their scariest horror video into a competition that is rated by the amount of screams received from viewers. It sounds harmless enough but is there a more sinister side to 'scream site' than first meets the eye? Some of the video clips seem far too real and there are reports of girls going missing after posting videos.

As Sabrina begins to investigate 'scream site' she has moments of questioning whether it is becoming to dangerous to continue with her research but when her own sister disappears she is determined to find out what is going on.

Although there are some tense moments in the story the ending is rather abrupt and a little disappointing.

Wynter's Thief. Sherryl Jordan
Set in medieval England, this is the story of Fox, a branded thief, and Wynter, a water diviner who is held captive by her father. After finding water for a drought stricken village, the local priest accuses her of witchcraft and the villagers call for her to be burned as a witch. She is rescued by Fox and together they seek to find a place where they can feel safe and accepted. But just when they begin to think they have discovered such a sanctuary their pasts come back to haunt them.

The book alternates in narrative with one chapter being told by Fox and the next from Wynter's viewpoint. The story has strong themes of prejudice and superstition. It is an insightful and compelling read.

It’s 1979 and the world is watching and waiting for the landing of Skylab. No one knows exactly where or when to expect it. Meanwhile in a small town in Western Australia Frankie and her family are struggling to cope after the death of her father a few years earlier. Her mother is a nurse who works long hours so Frankie spends a lot of time caring for her little brother Newt. Frankie, following in her father’s footsteps, is interested in astronomy and she and Newt are especially interested in the landing of Skylab. As the Skylab’s landing day becomes more imminent (and people start to worry that it might land on top of them) Newt starts to behave very strangely. This is a great story full of very realistic characters. It is one that, once started is difficult to put down.
