Heather’s Biography

Heather Bray has been actively involved in genealogy for the past 36 years. She has over 106,000 names entered on both her husband’s and her own family trees. She has published 16 family history publications and edited over 20 other publications including the ten regional research guides produced by the New Zealand Society of Genealogist (NZSG). She convened the Dunedin Family History Group for eleven years and has served as a committee member on several Early Settlers’ Associations and historical groups around Otago and Southland. She is a member of several NZSG branches throughout New Zealand and for the Dunedin branch, she has held the position of convenor, secretary, treasurer, newsletter editor, projects co-ordinator and publicity officer. She was also an NZSG Officer for 25 years responsible for the Pre-1856 New Zealand Marriages database. Her real passion is education and she served for five years as the South Island Education Officer for the NZSG. She lectures privately on genealogy and has taught several beginners courses in genealogy as part of adult education in High Schools throughout Otago and Southland.
