Underground Music

Ever wondered what happened to that oldie but goodie music CD you used to borrow at regular intervals from the library?

In many cases unfortunately, the CD would have been withdrawn due to damage, shabbiness, or duplication and some of these ex-treasures (not the damaged ones) are put in the Library Sale to be sold. However, in the case of those special CDs with significant value, we have created a stack at City Library to keep them safe. That doesn’t mean they will never be seen (or heard) again. It just means you will need to ask a staff member on the first floor to get them for you. You can then borrow them for two weeks, just like the other (non-Hot-pick) CDs.

This new stack collection contains worthy titles from our Classical collection on the second floor of the City Library, whose use has tapered off, but which we know will still be wanted in the future, such as Beethoven’s Piano Trios played by Andreas Staier [Arles, Harmonia Mundi, 2007], or Bellini’s La Sonnambula with Bartoli, Florez and D’Arcangelo, [2007-8]. It also contains, from the Popular section, titles such as: More Nature: a selection of New Zealand’s best 2000-2005 and, Salty by the Mutton Birds, 2006.

These CDs are not out of mind – but they are outta sight!
