Wild Dunedin

Take a walk on the wild side this April with the launch of a brand new festival. Wild Dunedin is a chance for everyone to discover and explore Dunedin's natural history, from the high lands to the high seas (ki uta ki tai).

Festival organisers would like locals and visitors to join them and celebrate our beautiful coastline, beaches, night skies and incredible wildlife.

Dunedin is New Zealand's wildlife capital, with a myriad of activities and events celebrating nature and conservation.

The Festival starts on Earth Day, Friday 22nd April 2016, continues over the Anzac Day weekend and on into the school holidays. A broad variety of activities are planned, including educational and fun events (talks, open days, displays, kite flying), conservation events (guided walks, exhibitions, movie screenings),  and discounts for nature tours and attractions offered by local operators.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of key groups and people, great progress is being made, with the aims of providing a carnival to celebrate our wonderful wildlife; a way to raise understanding of our plants and animals; a platform to profile Dunedin groups working to protect our nature; and a showcase of Dunedin's wild heritage to New Zealand and the world.

There is every expectation this will become a regular event on the Dunedin festival calendar, and one of the South Island's iconic celebrations, while offering an umbrella for organisations staging nature-focused associated events.
