Are You a Blockhead? All Things Lego at the Library

Sonya dives into the world of Lego at the library, from blocks to books, explore a variety of inspiring Lego resources!

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to bust out your Lego, whether you’re still growing or a grown-up.

For kids aged 5 years and above, Lego Club runs year round at Blueskin Bay, City, Mosgiel, South Dunedin, and Waikouaiti libraries.  Best of all, it’s completely free!  You can check out the details of the days and times it runs at your closest library on the library’s Events Calendar.

For inspiration on what to build at home, borrow one of our Lego magazines, Blocks or LEGO Ninjago. They’re usually found in the Children’s section, but adults are welcome to borrow them too! There are also Lego non-fiction books in both the children’s and adults sections, found at 688.725, such as The LEGO Trains Book, Brick City: LEGO for Grown Ups and LEGO: Awesome Ideas.

To encourage life-long Lego love in your family, get your kids reading with early readers such as How to be a Ninja and Perfect Pets. Once they’ve read those, we have Lego graphic novels, such as the LEGO Legends of Chima series. We also have chapter books for kids looking to immerse themselves in Legoland novels, like The Curse of the Cat-Eye Jewel

After all that hard work building and reading, switch things up with your favourite movie – Lego style! We have LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar, The LEGO Batman Movie, Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales, and more.

And if your eyes haven’t gone completely blocky yet, the library has some books for you to read in your Lego-building breaks, such as Build Yourself Happy: The Joy of Lego Play, Particle Physics: Brick by Brick: Atomic and Subatomic Physics Explained ... in Lego, and the history of Lego in The Cult of LEGO

What are you waiting for? Lego for it!
