Visions for Dunedin Series: Our Heritage, Our Future
March Talk: Integrating Heritage into a Central City for the Future
Speaker: Glen Hazelton
(This talk was rescheduled from February)
Recently returned to Dunedin after 4.5 years in Perth and Wellington, Glen is leading the implementation of the DCC’s Central City Plan. He will be talking about some of the ideas for incorporating heritage into a once-in-a-generation opportunity to upgrade the central city’s public spaces and reflect the changing needs and desires of an increasingly diverse population.
Glen led the heritage program at Dunedin City Council between 2009 and 2016 including development and implementation of the Warehouse Precinct Revitalisation Plan, which transformed a derelict area of Dunedin into one of the city’s most exciting heritage areas. He is now looking forward to sinking his teeth into the Central City Plan and using his experiences to deliver changes that link economic development, urban regeneration and amenity and infrastructure improvements.

Post-partum Depression: An analysis in two parts
Professor Paul Glue and Associate Professor Yoram Barak of the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago explain the differences between ‘baby blues’ and the far more serious postpartum depression, examine why standard treatments for depression don’t work for post-partum depression, and reveal some of their research/innovative ideas looking at a potentially life-changing solution to the condition.
There will be a Q&A session after each presentation.
Professor Paul Glue's research focuses on clinical and basic science to investigate the pharmacology of drug treatments in psychiatry and the disease mechanisms of neurological and psychiatric disorders. He is also interested in psychopharmacology and the development of novel therapeutics for affective disorders.
Associate Professor Yoram Barak’s research interests include a wide range of psychiatric conditions (such as depression, schizophrenia, and obsessive–compulsive disorder), old-age psychiatry, and suicide.
