Friends of the Library Talk Series: Future Hocken: Stories of Engagement with Catherine Hammond

Learn about what’s in store for the Hocken Collections with Catherine Hammond at the helm.
The new head of Dunedin’s Hocken Collections, Catherine Hammond, is the 10th Hocken Librarian since the University of Otago were gifted Dr Hocken’s collection in 1910.
But while the Hocken’s history is rich and interesting, Catherine looks toward the future of the Hocken, and it’s looking bright and engaging.

Port Chalmers: Leopard Seals in Otago with Giverny Forbes

Giverny met her first leopard seal only a five-minute drive from where she grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland and from that moment she was hooked. Giverny will share what she has learned about the leopard seals of Otago and teach you how to identify different seals and their behaviour. She will also offer guidance on how to live alongside leopard seals.

Crafty Seeds Workshop

Make crafts with seeds with Olga from the Library, then plant them at home and watch them grow. Materials provided. For school-aged children.

Olga Hemmingsen has been running crafty activities for children at the Library for many years and she always comes up with fun creations to make.

Cost: $5/family (up to 4 children) or $2/child
