Heritage Photo Competition for Otago

Do you have any photos of Otago heritage places on the New Zealand Heritage List/ Rārangi Kōrero? If so, this competition is for you.

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is partnering with Dunedin Public Libraries in a competition to collect photos of Ōtepoti Dunedin’s most important heritage places. From Friday 15th September to Friday 29th September the public are asked to submit any recent photographs of listed heritage buildings and sites in the Otago/Southland region.

“On our online New Zealand Heritage List we often rely on older photos taken at the time of listing”, says Sarah Gallagher, Area Manager for Otago/Southland. “This competition is a chance to collect up-to-date photos that show how these places look now, which will update our wonderful new website.

Keep an eye out on the DPL Events Calendar for more information about this competition!

All the photos submitted will be on display at the Dunedin City Library on the Cube during the Ōtepoti Dunedin Heritage Festival from 5-15 October. The images will also be added to the Dunedin Public Library’s digital collection  Scattered Seeds He Purapura Marara and used in the online New Zealand Heritage List/Rārangi Korero with attribution.

“We’re very excited to see what comes in and really hope that people enjoy exploring our list online to find records that need their photographs updated. We hope this inspires some wonderful photographs and increases appreciation of Dunedin’s heritage,” says Sarah.

The winner will receive an A4 print of their winning entry, framed by Gallery De Novo, and a Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga BLUNT umbrella featuring the Bloom wallpaper design.
