L’dor V’dor: The Holocaust and Intergenerational Trauma

In this talk, Kris Clancy and Gillian Wess from the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand explore how the aftermath of the Holocaust has had lasting effects on subsequent generations through epigenetics, trauma, and communal cohesion.

Maori Legends Exhibition Tour

Nau mai, haere mai! Join exhibition co-curators for a guided tour of the Māori Legends exhibition on now in the Reed Gallery. The Kaupapa of the exhibition is to celebrate Māori artists and storytellers, focusing particularly on children’s pukapuka from the 60s to the 90s.

Come and feast your eyes on beautiful illustrations and learn about the absolute “legends” who created them. Discover how efforts to create te reo Māori pukupuka for tamariki has helped in revitalisation of the language and in our shared identity in Aotearoa.

Friends of the Library Talks: Engaging with our Communities

Learn more about the exciting initiatives underway to promote reading and support our youth at the Dunedin Public Libraries.

Youth Engagement Coordinator Peone Logo will share an interactive presentation, highlighting ways she has encouraged young people to engage with the Library and literature, while Reading Promotion Coordinator Jackie McMillan shares the importance of promoting reading to all ages, and presents a series of initiatives being used to encourage our communities to engage with reading.

Author Talk: Mary Garden

Join us as Mary Garden shares her father’s biography, Sundowner of the Skies: the story of Oscar Garden, the forgotten aviator, a candid look into Mary’s study of her father.
Mary, a freelance journalist, talks about her upbringing, and how both her first book The Serpent Rising, as well as her father’s biography, came to be written, and the impact they have had.
