iD Fashion Week 1-6 May 2018

The Dunedin City Library has fabulous fashion books and resources. There are books about fashion designers; books about the construction of clothing and accessories; and books about fashion, costume and clothing around the world and through the centuries. We also have a selection of magazines, including some rare and fascinating archival material. A trip to the 3rd Floor Heritage Room reveals even more gems from New Zealand.

During iD Fashion Week 2018, we are delighted to be hosting a series of events, that fashionistas will enjoy...

iD Fashion Week: Clothing Revival and Repair Workshop

Brought to you by Stitch Kitchen. Explore fresh ways of dressing, by upcycling existing natural fibre garments.
The clothing surplus in wardrobes and op shops presents a creative opportunity to revive, adapt and mend garments to suit ourselves while discovering our unique style. Sometimes we hold on to clothes we love but do not fit us anymore or need some TLC. Bring along a few garments that need a fix, we discuss options and enact changes within the time available.
Workshop presented by Jane Milburn, author of “Slow Clothing: Finding Meaning in What We Wear”, and owner of Textile Beat, Brisbane. In an era dominated by passive consumption of cheap and synthetic fashion, she presents a compelling case for why we need to change the way we dress to live lightly on Earth through everyday practice.
Cost: $20 per person (tickets available from Dunedin City Library)

iD Fashion: Gordon’s World

Brought to you in partnership with iD Dunedin, enjoy an evening in the company of one of the fashion world’s most fascinating characters.

Gordon Leonard Clarke left New Zealand as a young fashion designer in the 60s and has spent his life surrounded by beautiful things. Now he has returned, with a determination to show the world that ‘Kiwi’ is chic.

Join us on a tour of Gordon’s world, from London to Venice, Los Angeles to Florence, as he discusses why New Zealand wool is second to none, and the importance of window dressing!
