Chinese Language Picture Books
In the lead up to this year's Chinese Language Week (22-28 September 2024) Dunedin Public Libraries were given over 100 new picture books from China by the New Zealand Chinese Language Week Trust. In China, picture books are known as huiben and tuhuashu. The books given to our libraries represent the very best of storytelling and artistic talent from China and are lavishly produced.
Authors include, Cao Wenxuan, Bao Dongni, Qin Wenjun and Zhu Ziqiang, and illustrators, Cao Gao, Zhou Xiang and Jiu er.
Most of these books do not have any English language on them so the catalogue record for each book uses romanisation of the Chinese script (known as Pinyin).
These books are classified by the Dewey number 495.1, so will be found at that number in the children's non-fiction collection of each of our libraries.
But if you are searching for these books online on our library catalogue the easiest way to locate them all is to do a general search for:Chinese Language Week Trust.
This will bring up the complete list and you can place a hold on the item whichever library the book is at. Remember Holds on Youth cards are free.
