August Poetry

National Poetry Day on Friday 25th August is a celebration of poetry across New Zealand.

Dunedin Public Libraries are dedicating the month to poetry, with a chance to hear readings from our treasury of talented bards across the city.

In this issue of NB we are honoured to include poems from Kath Beattie, Emma Neale, Annabel Wilson, Elena Poletti, Mark Stephenson and Grace Carlyle, as well as the students of Sue Wootton's poetry class at Karitane School.

August Poetry month, culminates in our Perfect 10  event on Friday 25th August.  Join us for a reception in the Dunningham Suite, City Library, at 5.30pm and be serenaded by Bill Martin on piano, followed by a gala evening of poetry. Hosted by the Otago-Southland NZ Society of Authors, this celebration of poetry brings together 10 illustrious Otago poets, alongside some of our upcoming young writers. With writer Diane Brown at the helm, our special guests include: Peter Olds, David Howard, Brian Turner, Fiona Farrell, Liz Breslin, Victor Billot, Jillian Sullivan, Sue Wootton, Jenny Powell, and Kay Cooke.
