Armistice Day, Courage Day peace events 2020

11th November - 15th November

Commemorating the fallen, celebrating peace and culture, and highlighting the plight of persecuted writers around the world, a programme of peace events in Dunedin this November:

Wednesday 11th November, Armistice Day: live broadcast of the Armistice service from the Cenotaph. The Cube, Ground Floor, City Library, 11am

Thursday 12th November: Hocken Library presents a talk by Professor Chris Brickell - James Courage: His Life and Diaries. Hocken Library, 90 Anzac Avenue, 5.30pm (all welcome)

Friday 13th November: Around the World in 80 Tales virtual storytelling festival launches on Channel 39, celebrating Dunedin's diverse culture through the universal language of stories

Sunday 15th November: Courage Day. Highlighting the plight of three writers currently imprisoned or persecuted for their writing. Members of the New Zealand Society of Authors present readings of prose and poems on the subject of freedom of expression. Light refreshements provided (all welcome). The Cube, Ground Floor, City Library, 11am-12.30pm

Sunday 15th November: He Whakahou Roko Rakatahi Youth Peace Symposium. Join us for this inaugural peace event in Dunedin, as young people from around the City share their hopes for peace in troubled times, through the medium of prepared speeches and artworks. Light refreshments provided. Dunningham Suite, 4th Floor, Dunedin City Library, 2pm
