This presentation is an overview of DNA and its use by family historians and will cover the Why, How and What of DNA. Why you would do a DNA test; How DNA works for family history; What you can expect from your results and what to do next."

10.15am “DNA Explorer” You’ve got your DNA results; now it’s time to explore and find out how to make the most of your test results. 

11.15am Break 

11.30am “Clustering your Matches” In this hands-on guided workshop, you’ll be working with sample DNA matches to learn how to cluster your matches. 

12.30pm Lunch 

1.15pm Working with your Clusters In this hands-on guided workshop, you’ll investigate a cluster and be ready to apply this method to your own matches. 

2.30pm DNA – What Next? From getting organised with your results, to the latest DNA news, with time for some Q&A.

Biography: Fiona Brooker

Fiona’s passion is to help you research and discover Yesterday’s Moments through your family history, stories, DNA and photographs and preserve and create Tomorrow’s Memories for future generations. While living in England, Fiona studied with the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies and obtained a Higher Certificate in Genealogy. She’s a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and has completed ProGen. She has served as both President and Treasurer of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG) and convened the 2008 and 2018 national conferences. She was part of the team organising the Christchurch Family History Expo from 2020-2022. With a background in adult education, Fiona has taught family history and digital scrapbooking over 30 years. She has presented at various international conferences. “There’s nothing better than getting someone else addicted to the hunt for their ancestors”.
