Cook Books

Dianne Mears - South Dunedin Librarian —

When given the chance I love nothing more than looking through a variety of cook books to get some inspiration.

We have such fantastic choices with some homegrown here in Dunedin and from around New Zealand.

Eat. Chelsea Winter
You can’t go wrong with any book by Chelsea Winter, I own 4 out of her 5 cook books. Her recipes are easy to follow, and you can substitute ingredients if you have to. I have spent many a happy hour in the kitchen creating some great dishes.

Ask a Chef Volume 3Edited by Rebecca Fox, Otago Daily Times
I love this book, I’m seriously thinking about buying it. I might even drop a few hints that this would make a great Christmas present. Having a chance to make some of these amazing recipes from chefs and cooks around our region is a challenge that I enjoy.

Dinnertime Goodness. Nadia Lim
I really enjoyed this book – all Nadia Lim's books are great - the use of fresh and seasonal ingredients lets you experiment in the kitchen and create some amazing dishes. It can also help you explore new ingredients. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Trying a new dish every so often is very satisfactory and can be heaps of fun.

Delicious Dunedin: recipes and stories from Ōtepoti. Edited by Christian Kasper
This book showcases some of the fantastic gems that we have here in Dunedin. If you are wanting a book that shows off our fantastic city and the wonderful food that we have then this is the book for you. I loved looking through this book and finding recipes that I had tried and wondered how they were made. Admittedly my creations may not look the same, but they still taste great.
