The Kingfisher's Debt by Kura Carpenter

New Dunedin Novel: The Kingfisher's Debt by Kura Carpenter

What REALLY lies in the bowels of Dunedin City Library?

The Kingfisher’s Debt author, Kura Carpenter, would like you to think it’s another library – one for Witches.

“There’s always been something odd about the DPL,” Kura said when questioned. “How many basements does a respectable library really need?”

Three apparently, according to the book. And what’s down there? The Witches’ Reading Room, a members-only library for local Dunedin Witches.

Described as Wellington Paranormal meets Outrageous Fortune, Kura Carpenter’s debut urban fantasy novel, “The Kingfisher’s Debt” is set in Dunedin, and as well as revealing a hidden magical community, the mystery lurking beneath the City Library is about to be exposed.

"The Kingfisher's Debt is a fast-paced, humorous first-person mystery about a woman from a family of car-thieves with supernatural powers who is forced to work with the Dunedin police to solve community crimes in order to repay her debt to society."

I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. If you like your humour as dry as your gin, you'll love this. Cracking dialogue, and a story that keeps its secrets when it should.

Maybe it’s time to expand City Library’s monthly Stack Trek to include magical realms?
