Host of Otago Access Radio's Space Station Kiwi, Captain Cornflakes by Otago Access Radio

Spaced-out Cornflakes Descends on The Library

As part of The Big Listen, celebrating community access radio throughout August, that old pirate Captain Cornflakes will be hijacking the Children's Storypit.
Captain Cornflakes loves the Library - especially the 'oarsome' checkout machines that speak 'pirate'!

Captain Cornflakes at the Library

Ahoy, Captain! Congratulations sir, I understand your Saturday morning show received the NZ Radio Award for Best Community Access Music Programme for 2016, and also was runner up for the Best Children’s Programme. That’s pretty cool, aye?

Arrrrr! Ole Captain C be a very happy pirate, indeed. Children’s radio is a magical thing and I be very proud that Kiwis young and old like me show.

You have quite a fan base for the Space Station Kiwi Show. Who are your audience?

The fun and games be for all children and families, but the main target audience is the wee salty scallywags - early childhood and primary aged kids.

And you’re going to be landing your Spaceship in the Library on 20th August for The Big Listen – tell me more.

I can't wait to be teleporting down from the space station, reading some stories, and recording some snippits for the programme.

Can people come along and be part of your show in the Library?

Arrrr! It would warm the cockles of me heart to see lots and lots of kiddies there. Come along and be a part of it all, pick some songs or do a shout out. I’ll be there with me special space-microphone, gathering up little bits of radio treasure to play on Space Station Kiwi on Otago Access Radio 105.4FM the following week, so there’s a good chance ye could star in me special radio show.

They should dress the part, aye Captain?

Yes, please put on ye pirate costumes and let’s set sail for adventure!

YouthZone will also be broadcasting live from the Dunedin City Library on 8th August, as part of the Big Listen celebrations. Join Domi from 4-5pm in the Teen Space to be part of the show and find out more about getting into broadcasting.
