Navigator

A new novel by Anne Moir

Dunedin writer, Anne Moir was born and raised in Southland. In 1970 she moved to Dunedin to study, and stayed.

Navigator, her first novel, is to be released later in September, 2017. The story grew from her experiences as a child in the post-Second World War era, when many men, including her father and uncles, were ex-servicemen.

Set in southern New Zealand in the first half of the twentieth century, Navigator tells the story of Joe Hassen’s rural childhood and his part as a navigator in Bomber Command in Europe in the second World War. Joe survives the war, including a terrifying sortie into the deadly skies above Dresden. When the fighting is over, he returns to Dunedin, to Molly, his love, and to a settled future as a teacher with a family.

But Joe cannot rest, haunted by a family secret that not even Molly knows about. Sooner or later he must solve an elusive mystery about his past. Finally, down a remote back road on the Southland coast, Joe finds an answer that at last completes the puzzle.
