Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra on Tour
Join us for a selection of classical and contemporary works performed by the Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra.

The orchestra is based in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, and will be touring the South Island during July, and the Dunedin City Library is delighted to welcome them for a lunchtime concert.

Bring your lunch and enjoy the performance!

The Grace of Snowdrops: A winter poetry competition
Larnach Castle heralds the approach of the end of winter with an annual walk among their snowdrop gardens in August.

Celebrate the beauty of this graceful and delicate flower by writing a poem for our inaugural August Poetry competition, and you could find yourself as guest of honour at the Larnach Castle prizegiving on Snowdrop Day.

Jealous Saboteurs: Teen Writing Competition
In association with the Francis Upritchard exhibition Jealous Saboteurs, and in collaboration with Dunedin Public Libraries and Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature. Entry is restricted to those from Year 9 to Year 13. One entry per person, with a maximum of 750 words. Closing date for entries is 28 October 5pm. PLUS prizes for the three winners. This touring exhibition, Francis Upritchard: Jealous Saboteurs is a joint partnership with Monash University Museum of Art and City Gallery, Wellington.


Jealous Saboteurs: A workshop for young writers hosted by Sue Wootton
In association with the current Jealous Saboteurs exhibition at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, young writers are invited to take part in a writers’ workshop inspired by the works of artist, Francis Upritchard.

The workshop, run by Dunedin writer Sue Wooton, will include a visit to Dunedin Public Art Gallery to preview the exhibition, followed by a two-hour tutorial where students will be taken through ideas and planning to enable them to produce a piece of writing, eligible for entry into the Jealous Saboteurs Teen Writing competition.

The competition is being run in a collaboration between Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Dunedin Public Libraries, and the Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature, and is open to young writers in years 9-13 of high school. National Poetry Day: The Perfect 10
Hosted by the Otago-Southland NZ Society of Authors, our gala evening celebrating poetry brings 10 illustrious Otago poets together, as well as introducing some of our upcoming young poets.
