Oh, the Untramelled Possibilities
I would like publishing deadlines to be elastic
I would like months to have extra days allocated for editing
I would like all poetry publishers to have standardised criterion
I would like reading poetry to be much more pervasive
I want a world where well-being, community wealth, and people are first & foremost
I want a world where consumerism & commodification contracts, & we meet only our needs
I want a world which resolves to take substantive action to mitigate climate change
I want a word where the actualisation of our full human potentials is a clear and overt goal for all
I yearn for the complete cessation of violence; internecine, family, state, territory, or religion—all of it!
I yearn for a time when we appreciate experience, wisdom, fortitude and resilience
I yearn for the homeless to be housed, the sick to be treated, and the vulnerable given support and succour
I yearn for the time when this manifesto is less aspirational credo, and more of a recitation of past achievement
I desire to help implement a smart, green economy where NZ leads the world for innovation and ingenuity
I am passionate about the immense power of words and language to re-frame and elevate human experience
I am longing for the day when dissension, discord, anger and violence evaporate into transcendental love
I hanker to use my psychotherapy training to relieve suffering, and transform the lives of those in mental anguish, but also elevate human potential towards new zeniths.
