Welcome to Dunedin – UNESCO City of Literature and proud host of the Creative Cities Southern Hui 2017.
Located on the south east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, Dunedin is New Zealand’s first city. Named after its sister city, Dunedin is the Gaelic name for Edinburgh. It is one of New Zealand’s most important cultural and educational centres.
Dunedin is a place where creativity, writers, books and literature thrive. Dominated by a statue of Robbie Burns, the city acknowledges the importance of an egalitarian and vernacular literature within and for the community.
Known for its creativity and vibrant atmosphere, Dunedin offers a host of remarkable performances, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year, and you can feed your mind and your soul in the city's distinctive galleries, museums and theatres.
Dunedin’s Scottish history is brushed with cosmopolitan charm, boasting the largest concentration of Victorian and Edwardian architecture in New Zealand; fine examples of the city’s heritage around every corner.
