Huia te aroha

Huia te aroha
Kia popō
Kia pupū
Kia pipī…

Tauawhiawhi ana
a Hinehukatere i te pae maunga rā

E āhuru kau ana
te ngākau i te ahi kā

Huia te aroha
Kia popō
Kia pupū
Kia pipī…

Purea ana
e te pāhautea, i te takanga o te rā

Kua wātea
ki te uku, ki te wai, ki te auahi e…

Huia te aroha
Kia popō
Kia pupū
Kia pipī…

Gather together in love and compassion

Gather together in love and compassion
The grand gestures of love, land to land
The friendships solidified through sharing food
The light, fun moments that bind it all together

While the winter maiden lays her cloak
over the mountain range

We are gathered comfortable and warm by the fire
and hospitality of the big house

Gather together in love and compassion
The grand gestures of love, land to land
The friendships solidified through sharing food
The light, fun moments that bind it all together

We are purified
by the cedar leaves at the solstice

We are cleansed with clay, with water, and with the
sacred smoke…

Gather together in love and compassion
The grand gestures of love, land to land
The friendships solidified through sharing food
The light, fun moments that bind it all together

Popō, pupū, and pipī are all types of bubbles
Popō: The big slow bubbles that you get in the thick mud by a geyser
Pupū: The rolling bubbles that you would get in a boiling pot
Pipī: The light fizzy bubbles like in a fizzy drink
