I PREFER
And I prefer ‘now’ to mere moments in time
And I prefer humour and poems that rhyme
And I prefer rhythms to ‘-isms’ and ‘-ists’
Eclectic collections to columns and lists
And I prefer magic to logic and sense
And I prefer truth to adopted offense
And I prefer smiles to quizzical looks
And I prefer paper to digital books
And I prefer pencils, full-cream and whole-grain
And birdsong to silence and snowflakes to rain
And I prefer autumn and analogue clocks
And cab-savs to merlots and thick woollen socks
And I prefer fires and football and mates
And I prefer doing what conscience dictates
And I prefer flying to lying in state
And random connections and kismet and fate
And I prefer walking around the next bend
And I prefer this as a good place to end
