Principal's Comment 14th September 2022
Nau mai haere mai!
On Friday the 9th of September the school formal was held in the Palmerston Sports Hall. The Year 13 students did a great job planning, staging and then cleaning up of the hall on the night and the next day. What a transformation the hall had into the theme of a “Night in Paris” It was also great to see the amazing cars and students all dressed up for the big night. A huge thank you must go to the Year 13 students, Dr McIntyre, Mrs Ford for the work that they put into this to make this such an awesome experience for the students. A special thank you to Jessica Roach for the amazing food that was created for the evening and the Year 10 students that volunteered their time to serve the guests.
Over the last couple of weeks our students have been up to some amazing things.
We had a stack of students participate in the Otago Primary schools cross country champs at Kaikorai Valley college. While all students did a great job I would like to make a special mention of Ollie O’Connell who placed third in the Year 7 boys division.
We had two students participate in the North Otago Primary schools cross country. Livana Skevington winning the Year 7 girls division and Gracie Jackson placing 5th in the Year 8 girls.
On the 22nd of August Fipe Maire participated in the Pasifika Voices contest at Otago Boys High School. Fipe was the youngest competitor with it usually being for Year 9/10 students. Fipe placed first amongst students all over the Otago region. Well done!
Next week we have two Year 7/8 mixed teams travelling up to Christchurch to participate in the Koru games. Mr Herewini has been training up this latest crop of students for the past couple of years. On the weekend he held a training camp which was highly successful, reinforcing the structures and processes to make these two teams as competitive as possible. Mr Herewini has a proud history of success in this competition with a couple of gold medal winning teams. We wish them all the best next week.
On Monday we have our parent interviews. Please make sure you book in a time to see your students teachers as well as their Rawhiti/Form teacher who will discuss their progress towards their goals for the year.
