East Otago High School Speech Competition

Kate Fisher —

Award Presentation Monday 2nd November 2020

On Friday 23rd of October we held the East Otago High School speech competition.

I was fortunate to have Mrs Malloch and Mrs Sharp help me adjudicate and we were very impressed with the quality of all of the speeches, from Y7 to Y13. I’d like to praise every member of the audience, who behaved really well and showed respect for the speakers.

It took courage and resilience to stand up and speak in the competition and we were very proud of everyone who stepped up to that big challenge.

Special gratitude also goes to Millie and Luke who MC’d, and did a smashing job.

In the Intermediate Competition, our winner was Ryan Worth, runners up being Greta McCaw and Addisyn Lawrence.

In the Junior Competition, our winner was Abigail Paton, runners up being Ashton Scott  and Bella Flavell.

In the Senior Competition, our winner was Luke Paton with a special mention for Katelyn Toomey's very moving Valedictorian speech.

The competition was a highlight of my year here at East Otago High School, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s speeches
