Spinkle’s Story
Deep in the forest where binkleberrys grow, two little eyes start to glow. Down a cave dripping with goo a wooden face pokes out, "BOO!"
A flutter of fluffaloos startle a bubbabaloo splashing around in the pond. "Oh Spinkle, my friend what are you doing?"
"Practicing my scariness for the river Nook, as I know there'll be a sneaky crook!"
"Oh why will you go if you know there's a crook?"
Spinkle turned round, looked the bubbabaloo in the eye.
"I hear there's a great big hullabaloo!"
"All right, but be safe, and pack all your things! You might as well be gone for three whole springs!"
As he went on his way picking up berries he found a trail of hand me down derries.
"Oh who would have dropped such things? I could get them at the market for $9.80!"
A high pitched whistle goes "twedulimdoo" as a bright pink Yoo wandered out of the trees holding a pair of turquoise socksees.
"Oh me oh my I've lost my pie!" the Yoo says with dismay.
Spinkle runs over, trips over a rover and clumsily found himself at the feet of the Yoo.
"Good evening Yoo, how do you do?" Spinkle says simply, picking himself up off of the goo.
" Not very well but how about you? You must have come a long way!"
" Yes indeed, all the way from the Valley of Goo."
The Yoo looked surprised with a face that was startled, “ Oh why don't you come to my house and there my friend we’ll have a feast of binkleberry jam on top of soobatroo!”
“Soobatroo,” Spinkle said with dismay,” My friend had that just yesterday, I asked for some then but, oh no I couldn't have just a drop!”
The yoo looks disgusted- at least so it seems.
“Well then you must have some! I’ll prepare it right away!”
Then he turns round, takes Spinkle by the hand and pulls him up and away up a tall tree, up the sky some might say.
Up, up in the tree where the Yoo was preparing Spinkle found himself quite dreary.
“Oh Spinkle little one you look so tired! You must have a nap or you will turn into a rat.”
“Of course but first, I am hungry as well. You said a feast of soobatroo with binkleberry jam?” The Yoo looked delighted it's face full of glee.
“Yes you must try it, you'll see, you'll see.”The Yoo plattered up a plate stuffed with soobatroo, a small pot of jam, just enough- it would do!
And then they had the most marvelous feast. It was so long it lasted till quarter past two. Spinkle looked at the clock up above the Yoo’s head.
“ I really must go, I must be on my way if I’m to catch the hullabaloo!”
The Yoo looked up in surprise and said with a gleam in its eyes, “I’ll come with you, I must be there to watch the hullabaloo”.
So they went on their way, their tummies filled up to the top, but Spinkle felt as though he was going to go pop!
Through the valley and forest they went, only stopping once for a big tent. They finally came to the huge river Nook keeping an eye out for the sneaky crook. They looked around, up and down but the hullabaloo was nowhere to be found.
“Oh no, are you lost?”
A voice came from way up the tree, the sneaky crook slipped down and said, “My name is Tweetree, now hand over your coat yoo, it must be worth a hundred or two!”
“You shouldn't go there,” said Spinkle with a mean glare, but the crook just gave him a stare.
“ You're one of those goo monsters aren't you? Oh I wish I could play in the goo!”
“Stop threatening my friend Yoo and you might see some goo!”
He pulled out of his pouch a clumpy pile of smelly rotting goo.
“He has been nice to me so shoo, shoo!”
The crook scrambled off with tears in his eyes, with Spinkle throwing goo up, up into the sky.
“This day was eventful, I can't stand to bear it, I’ll just lay here and dream that I just heard it,” said the Yoo as he lay down.
“I shall head home now as there is no hullabaloo, I’ll miss you my friend oh great Yoo.” He was already asleep, not as much as a tweet, so Spinkle set off but got distracted by berries, so lay in them all and squished them about.
He started to think, what a day it had become, all the travel and surprise that no harm was done! And the fact that he met a Yoo, well that was definitely soobatroo messing with his head. At five minutes past three he was ready to go, on his way all the road home.
