The Year 9 and 10 Semester Two Science modules are underway

Dr Helen McIntyre —

In Mr Bird’s CSI Forensics module students have looked at different pieces of evidence that are used to link a crime scene, suspect and evidence. They have investigated fingerprints, with everyone in the class identifying the type of fingerprints they have and sharing the information with each other as a part of an in class research assignment. We found that 56% of fingers were a loop shape, 23% were a whorl shape, 20% were an arch shape and 1% had a rare composite fingerprint. Students have also investigated the solubility of different substances and have been introduced to a number of different concepts such as DNA, clues, footprints, witness accounts and more.

While in Dr McIntyre’s “Clean and Green” module, students started by learning about different types of energy, energy transfer and carried out experiments to determine the best type of insulation. Students have researched different non-renewable and renewable energy sources. We are currently looking at the causes and effects of climate change.
