Importance of respect.

Importance of respect.

We all use the word respect quite often, but what does it mean? I searched for the meaning of respect online. It says that respect is regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others. And I agree with how this is explained and I don’t think I need to add anything more in this. Because this is exactly what I thought respects definition would or should look like, sound like and feel like.

The first place of education that each and everyone of us has ever learned respect from, is our homes. We learn respect from all our relatives and especially our parents! People that we grew up with. Our parents are our first teachers before any other teacher. They taught us all different types of attitudes, different ways and languages that is suitable for us as teenagers.

And now, we are in school. In school respecting teachers is a very important part of education and life. This is because teachers feel good when they are respected and tend to be less grumpy and nicer during the day. Well not all teachers waits for you to show them respect so they can be nice, but some! Not only you have to respect them because of the good impacts on them when you respect them, but it is a must! It is a must for us to respect our teachers, our elders, our minors and everyone else. Students are not the only ones that have to show respect but teachers as well. Sometimes, when teachers want their students to be active in class and listen, they need to listen to what the students have to say and give them the respect that they deserve as a students. By giving them this respect, the students might decide to be less annoying and tend to listen and be more motivated in working. Some kids might decide not to listen because they just like being disrespectful. Which is not good. It is up to the students to give the teachers the respect they deserve, and it's also up to the teachers to give the students back the respect they need.

When you want to get a job after your educations, one of the important things that the boss of the company wants to see in you or from you, is respect.Because it is one of the most important things in a job, this is because you have to respect all your customers no matter how young or how old, and make sure they are pleased with their service.

Respect is a two-way street. In order to gain respect, you have to be a giver of respect as well. It's just like buying something from a shop. In order to own a product from the shop ,you have to pay them the cost of the product. Respect is not just something you just hear from people or something that you just say, respect is not just words but action as well. It is very easy to say “I am a respectful person” but very hard to act it. By acting respectful, it shows the real thing, acting it shows it all then just speaking it. Just like the saying “Action speaks louder than words”.

Respect can be shown through behavior and it can also be felt. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow. And ways that we could show respect, is by:

Being Helpful. If you find a friend or coworker in a jam, be willing to help them if at possible. Not to say you should take on half their project, but offering some advice or throwing in a bit of your time will mean a lot. If that friend or coworker has helped you in the past, then returning the favor will be a nice way to show both your respect and gratitude.
Say Thank You. I am sure this one seems like common sense, but many people just forget to say “thank you” or at least forget how to say it with sincerity. A thank you can be as small as two words or as much as buying someone a gift. Nevertheless, if the action is not done with hundred percent sincerity then it is wasted. Make sure people know you appreciate them and their actions. Simply saying it in front of someone else can make a big impact.
Listen. I know it sounds easy, but listening–truly listening, can be one of the hardest skills to master. If you want a person to know you respect him/her, then tune into what that person is saying. Look them in the eye, put down your cell phone, and offer feedback when necessary. Everyone appreciates the person who is willing to listen to them and shows genuine interest in what they have to say.
There are a lot of other ways to show respect for others. But these are some of them that I picked out, just so you can get a bit of understanding about what respecting people is and how to be respectful. Very simple acts of kindness can make a big difference and a big impact in other people's lives. Always be respectful.
