Principal's Comment 21st September

Marcus Cooper —

Nau mai haere mai!

I am writing this principal's comment from Rolleston where our Year 7/8 mixed touch team are participating in the Koru Games. They have just completed their quarter final which they won 11-0 over Rangiora Borough School. The team have grown over the week and are now starting to reach their potential. The most pleasing aspect is the positive attitude that they are showing to each other, the coaching team and most importantly the other teams. I would like to acknowledge the time, experience, and knowledge that Johnny Herewini puts into these students. Let's hope that by the end of the day they can bring the trophy back home.

It has been another full on term at East Otago High School with lots of great opportunity for students. Sports have been front and centre with a couple of winter tournaments happening. The 1st Eleven Hockey Team went to Oamaru for the week and had a blast, developing their skills, meeting students from other schools and getting an awesome win on the last day. The Senior Netball Team went down to Invercargill and gained some great experience which will serve them well in the coming years.

Our Annual Ski Trip for Year 12/13 students was a great success with multiple students gaining Merit and Excellence grades for skiing and snowboarding.

Practice examinations were held last week giving the students valuable feedback for the high stakes examinations coming up in Term 4. Senior students should be putting together a study plan to maximise their chances of success.

Finally I would like to thank all our wonderful caregivers, parents and staff that give up their time, often also at financial cost to offer these opportunities discussed earlier. Without you this would not be possible.

Have a great break and see you all back in Term 4.

Nga mihi nui!
