SEN - October 2023

R Fitzgerald —

Recently some of our SEN Students have been working on sensory activities.

OOBLECK

Oobleck Recipe

1-1.5 Cup Corn Flour

1 Cup Hair Conditioner

Few drops of food dye/or water

Why is Oobleck a good sensory activity?

Oobleck is a sensory activity that encourages students to pinch, pour, scrape and poke; exercising their fine motor skills.

Students are also experiencing scientific concepts, such as understanding that solids and liquids are forms of matter. They are able to explore and observe.

Sensory activities are effective learning tools that engage all areas of a student’s brain, helping them with their cognitive, emotional, physical, social and communication development. For students, engaging in sensory play can retrain the brain's response to sensory information.
