Head Student Update - Piper McCaw

Piper McCaw —

Kia Ora my name is Piper McCaw and I am Deputy Head Student at East Otago High School.

These past few weeks have been super busy!

The lead up to Extravaganza has been great. The theme is famous artists and bands. Each house group has picked a different artist and band such as Clark: Justin Timberlake and One Direction, Muir: Pitbull and Black Eyed Peas, McKenzie: Miley Cyrus and ABBA, and School: Soulja Boy and Spice Girls. Each house group has been working hard and the dedication of all the House Captains has been great with them making up dances and mixing the songs. Everyone has been practising so much I am excited to perform and see which house group wins.

On the 27th of June our Kapa Haka Performance Group went to the Waikouaiti Event Centre to perform some Waiatas for Matariki. Many schools were there and ages varied from early childhood to high school age. It was great to see each age group share our culture through songs for Matariki.

Also on that Thursday there was a Hockey co-ed tournament. Even though they did not win they had so much fun playing against other schools. On the 24th and 25th of June the Year 13 Chemistry students went to the Chemistry Lab at the University of Otago in Dunedin to do experiments for their assessment which was finding iron in spinach. We did a lot of testing including weighing and cooking the spinach and making solutions to test the iron on the computer. Over the two days we learnt a lot of knowledge about being in the lab.
