Principal's Comment 18th November 2020.
Nau mai haere mai!
It is now officially NCEA examination time. It is heartening to see so many of our senior students coming into school and studying in the library and participating in the tutorials being run by the teachers. People often mistake that we are slowing down for the year with our senior students on examination leave. This is far from the case, with tutorials, sports weeks, reports, prize-giving, camps, and planning for next year things are steaming ahead.
It was great to have a number of parents attend our Year 9/10 option evening. Great discussion was had about the changes being made and the reasons for them. The teacher only day on Tuesday gave the teachers a chance to discuss the changes we will be seeing to NCEA over the next three years. Further information can be found on the below link.
As mentioned above we have a full on couple of weeks at school before we break up for the Christmas holiday period. This week our Year 9/10 students have participated in the Otago Secondary Schools Sports' Week. This has been a great opportunity for our students to experience a wide variety of sports in a relaxed, fun environment.
Next week our Year 10 students will be travelling to Timaru to visit the ARA campus. This is a great opportunity for students moving into NCEA next year to explore different tertiary pathways and options.
Also happening next week is a film making crew from 'A Stones Throw Productions' will be taking a group of 20 Year 9/10 students to produce a short film. The theme is tied to the 'White Ribbon' activities held in November across the country exploring the harmful effects of domestic violence.
Finally congratulations got to Flynn Mackenzie and Ashley Te Huia for qualifying and participating in the Otago Primary Schools Athletic championships. Ashley did particularly well placing 4th in his age group.
