Term One 2024 EOHS Library

Rae Howland —

Welcome back to school year.

I hope you had a great holiday and a chance to relax. The Library is open week days 8.30am to 3.00pm.

Books are issued for three weeks and can be renewed as needed. Five books can be borrowed at a time.

The library is a great space for browsing, working, reading and sharing time with friends. We have had fantastic student librarians and look forward to building a new 2024 team.

When the term gets underway, I will be recruiting interested students for training to join our library team as interval or lunchtime librarians.

Issue 1 of the Lucky Book Club Brochure is out now. The closing date for the school orders is Thursday 15th Feb 2024.

The book club caters for intermediate and young adult readers, features non-fiction titles, and has a range of fun activity products. Their prices are good, too. You can also order through the loop system.

Please see: scholastic.co.nz/LOOP

The book club gives back to schools through the Scholastic rewards programme where every order gives 15% back to schools.

Wise words from Scholastic.

Reading is a workout for your brain. Read for at least 10 minutes every day to exercise your brain. Reading is a positive habit that has life-long impacts on your knowledge and your health. Ten minutes reading a day gives you 3,650 minutes in one year.

A student who reads for ten minutes every day typically has a broader range of vocabulary and an increased level of spelling. Reading exposes children to new ideas, facts and cultures, helping to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Not only does regular reading help make students smarter, but it can also actually increase brain power.
