Student Librarians

We are lucky this year in having a large group of very capable student librarians who have completed their beginning library training and are doing a wonderful job.

Year 7-8 Reading Log Competition Term One

Term One featured a reading log competition for Year 7-8 students where they could either log in their reading online or record it on paper.

Year 7-8 Colouring Competition Term Two Year 7-8

There were some beautiful entries which made judging the best entries very difficult.

Years 9-13 Colouring Competition now on.

A selection of pages to choose is available in the library now.

Wings of Fire. Forge your Dragon World. Draw and write your own Legend.

Some students who have enjoyed the book series have embarked on drawing and writing their own legends with creative results. It’s a work in progress happening at lunchtimes in the library.

Year 7-8 Class Library Visits

Library visits have had a focus on promoting reading for pleasure and developing personal reading. Students have been borrowing more and branching out in their reading choices.

New Book Purchases to support the recommended student year level reading lists

There is a now a wider selection of books for students to select from, for their personal reading at the different year levels.

Schoolwide Student Reading Challenge

Thanks to Mr Strang, HOD English, for initiating this schoolwide challenge with more reading and book conversations evident.

Pizza Wheels (alas only for year 7-8)

Read seven books and get a free 333 kids Hell’s pizza! Reading card wheels are being signed daily to achieve the seven books and take away the wheel. This offer expires on 31st January 2023. For more information read the back of the card.

Waitaki Youth Librarian Visit about Borrow Box

In Term One Fiona Kerr shared with the Year 7-8 classes how to access Borrow Box. This great way to request and read books is available from both

The Waitaki Library and the Dunedin Public Library. Check it out with your local library.

Lucky Book Club-Ashton Scholastic

Two brochures each term. Thank you for supporting the lucky book club because this gains the school points to purchase more books.

Happy reading everyone!
