World Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships

Roz Croucher —

Many thanks to Noni Callander for this report from Poland. EOHS really appreciates both Noni and Jim for all the volunteer coaching they do here at school.

Jim Blair won three gold (javelin, discus and shot put) and two silver medals (weight throw and hammer) at the World Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Poland last week. The distances for two of his throws (weight throw and shot put) were also New Zealand Indoor records.

Jim still really enjoys competing, at weekly Saturday Athletics Otago meetings, at local New Zealand championships and also when possible overseas. He has a large stack of medals out in his shed!

Jim enjoys helping the local East Otago athletes with improving their throwing techniques. They certainly make quick progress which Jim also enjoys. The new concrete circle was useful for him to practice from before lunch time practices.

A big thank you goes to Jim and Noni for funding the concrete circle, it's much appreciated.
