Principals Comment 7th November

Marcus Cooper —

We have come down to the pointy end of the year for our senior students.

Our senior students had their last day at school on Wednesday and will begin their NCEA external examinations on Friday. While this time of the year can create some anxiety for your students it is also an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and get just reward for the hard work they have put in across the year.

There is no magic formula to being successful in these examinations. To get the results you need to put in the effort. Students need to revise the material and apply this to previous examination papers. Students can still come into school and seek assistance from their teachers. A number of tutorials are on offer over the coming weeks and students should make sure they use these opportunities. We encourage our parents/caregivers to also assist the students by inquiring into their study and helping them to set aside time at home, in a suitable place, free from distractions (including their  cell phone). A copy of the examination timetable is attached.

Over the next two days our Year 9 and 10 students will also be participating in examinations. These will give them real experience that they will be able to apply when they begin NCEA.

In the next four weeks at school we have plenty going on. In Week Six we have a number of students participating in the Otago Junior Sports Week in a variety of different sports. Week Seven we have our Year 10 students off to Glenorchy for their annual camp. In the final week of school we have a fun activity day for Year 7-10 students. The students will get to choose one of a number of activities that the teachers will be offering as a reward for all the hard work completed this year. The year culminates in our Prize-giving on Thursday the 5th from 6.30pm.

Wednesday night we farewelled our Year 13 students at their leavers dinner. It was great to hear about their journey over the last seven years and know that they will leave EOHS as well rounded young people ready to take on the world. We look forward to following their progress as they take the next step in their lives.

I would like to wish all our students participating in examinations all the best.

Nga mihi nui.
